|'Career'… perhaps the single most important thing in a human's life, no matter whether he is a Business Manager or whether he is a Government Clerk. Everyone wants to have it and everyone wants to make it. Everyone aspires for it and everyone wants to succeed in it. This is the pursuit of man through the ages. This is what keeps him moving and this is what keeps his ambitions alive.
Career is the sum total of activities that you do in your working life either to earn a livelihood or for some other reasons. According to Merriam Webster dictionary, 'Career is a profession for which one trains oneself and which is undertaken as a permanent calling.' Is this all what is meant by the term ?career'? Perhaps not. In today's dynamic and changing economic, industrial and job market scenario, another definition given by the Merriam Webster dictionary is more appropriate.
?Career is a field for or pursuit of consecutive progressive achievement especially in public, professional, or business life.'
This is more relevant today. A career is not just for earning a livelihood. It is much more than that. Career is a field or pursuit through which YOU COULD ACHIEVE WHAT YOU CAN in your life. It is a means for realising your true potentials. It is a means for being yourself. It is a means for expressing yourself. It is a means for living a meaningful life.
There are plenty of options today. Suddenly there seems to be so many career opportunities. Exotic titles all - Financial Planning, Bioinformatics, Networking, Exhibition Design, Retail Management, Biomedical Engineering, Sound Design, Space Technology. Traditional careers have taken a backseat and some of them have gone into oblivion forever. New fields are emerging. New horizons are rising.
You can be successful in any of these careers. You can make a lot of money, you can get respect, and you can have fast growth in any of these careers. You can be a millionaire before you reach 30.
Dream? dream your dream. But, before taking a big step in achieving your dream, just take a little break. Think it over. Is this the right dream for you? Do you have what it takes to be successful in it? Would you be able to make it?
